Tamale, Northern Ghana, October 24, 2024 – In a significant stride towards the implementation of the Grant Cycle 7 (GC7) project, titled “Finding the Missing Cases,” RUWA-Ghana has mobilized the Ngarun community, a suburb of the Sagnarigu Municipality, for TB awareness and free screening of presumed TB patients. This initiative, funded by the Global Fund through the Stop TB Partnership Ghana, featured a series of educational and advocacy activities, including the posting of TB Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) posters in the community to encourage TB screening.
The technical team at RUWA-Ghana explained that this activity is part of the organization’s planned efforts to conduct mass TB screenings, aiming to contribute to the overarching goal of ending TB in Ghana by 2030. The organization collaborates closely with the Sagnarigu Municipal Health Directorate and professional medical laboratories to ensure accurate testing and referral of TB cases for proper medical care and treatment, all provided free of charge.
Ibrahim Mutala, the leader of the technical team who facilitated the event, stated, “The treatment for TB is a comprehensive package provided by the Ghana Health Service through the National TB Control Programme (NTP).” He also highlighted that there is a special treatment package available for drug-resistant tuberculosis cases (Enablers Package).
The event in Ngarun saw active participation from the community in both screening and sensitization activities, underscoring RUWA-Ghana’s commitment to the fight against TB and the community’s desire to remain vigilant and protected.
The fight against TB continues in the communities served by RUWA-Ghana and across Ghana. The organization urges everyone to support this initiative and get screened for TB.
